Finance and Accountancy Business Awards – A Night to Remember
The Union Kirk in Aberdeen was transformed into a glittering celebration of talent on Thursday 8 May, as the city welcomed the Finance and Accountancy Business Awards. Hosted by award‑winning presenter Lauren Mitchell, the evening brought together the brightest minds and most dedicated teams in the region’s financial and business community.
From the moment guests arrived for a sparkling champagne reception, there was a buzz in the air. Colleagues, clients and industry leaders gathered in anticipation of the very first FAB Awards, an event created to shine a spotlight on the individuals and teams who keep the region’s business world running with skill, precision and innovation.
As the evening unfolded over a beautifully served three course dinner, the stage was set for a series of well deserved honours. From the Rising Star award to the coveted Lifetime Achievement accolade, every category recognised not just professional excellence, but the dedication and hard work that often happens behind the scenes. There was heartfelt applause for the winners, including Peter Cowan CA for his emerging leadership, Kathryn Groundwater for her outstanding contribution to finance, the Worley UK team for their consistent excellence, Derek Harcus for his strategic leadership as CFO, and Chris Oliver for a career dedicated to purposeful finance leadership.
While the awards themselves were the evening’s heart, the night also had its moments of pure entertainment. One such highlight came when Lauren introduced her very own version of the classic game show Countdown. With guests forming teams and the competitive spirit igniting across the room, it quickly became a talking point of the evening. Mixing sharp wit, quick thinking and plenty of laughs, the game perfectly showcased Lauren’s ability to engage a room and keep the atmosphere vibrant from start to finish.
The event was also about giving back. This year, the FAB Awards proudly supported Archway, a local charity providing vital support for people with learning disabilities and their families in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Guests gave generously, adding an extra layer of purpose to the night’s celebrations.
By the time the final award was presented, it was clear that the inaugural Finance and Accountancy Business Awards had set a high standard for the years ahead. Elegant, inspiring and full of personality, the night proved that recognising financial excellence needn’t be all facts and figures; it can be a celebration filled with laughter, community spirit and even the odd vowel and consonant scramble.
