Community Spirit Shines at the Glenglassaugh Scottish Traditional Boat Festival
Lauren Mitchell returned to Portsoy for the third consecutive year to host the Glenglassaugh Scottish Traditional Boat Festival alongside Andrew Martin. The popular event is a highlight in her calendar bringing together the sights sounds and stories of Scotland’s rich maritime heritage.
This year the festival was officially opened by Chris Chittell known to millions as Eric Pollard from Emmerdale. He chatted warmly with the crowd and took time to enjoy the harbour atmosphere setting the tone for a weekend filled with community spirit and a shared passion for all things nautical.
Last year the festival was opened by Anne Princess Royal who delighted visitors and participants with her genuine interest in the heritage vessels and the people who care for them.
From the beautifully restored traditional boats in the harbour to the music drifting across the water the festival is more than a celebration of boats – it is a celebration of craft tradition and community. Local food producers served up mouth watering treats, skilled artisans showcased their work and talented musicians kept the energy high. Notable performers such as award winning folk singer Iona Fyfe drew large crowds and added to the festival atmosphere.
Lauren and Andrew guided visitors through the busy programme introducing performers and guests and sharing in the laughter and stories that make the festival so special.
The Glenglassaugh Scottish Traditional Boat Festival continues to prove that tradition is alive and thriving in the North East of Scotland and Lauren is already looking forward to returning next year.
